The mystery of a flat tire in a remote Italian village has finally been solved, after villagers learned a neighbour’s dog was behind the vandalism.
It all started with a first complaint to the local police (carabinieri) from a resident of the village of Vastogerardi who saw one of his car’s tires punctured during the night.
In this small village, with a population of 700 people, several complaints continued, but the authorities were unable to arrest the suspect, according to what France Live reported on Monday, citing local media.
Patrols and hideouts yielded nothing, and the police were forced to install a surveillance camera system in the village in the hope of identifying the suspect.
Now, photos taken by the camera show the suspect, a dog named “Billy,” who acted with his face exposed to commit his crime, according to French media.
Billy’s owner did not understand his escape at night, but it turned out that the dog was suffering from gum inflammation, which caused him to bite tire rubber to relieve himself.
Last June, a 75-year-old French retiree from Toulouse was arrested for unnecessarily puncturing about twenty car tires, causing damage estimated at thousands of dollars.
