The British Sea and Coast Guard Agency said in a statement that it took care of a diver on Thursday 28 July who “was suspected of being bitten by a shark”.
According to the agency, “It appears that the swimmer was injured in the leg.” He was captured in Penzance Harbour, Cornwall, southwest England.
Despite the turn of events, “It was amazing to see such majestic creatures and I don’t want this incident to discredit an already persecuted species,” the injured diver responded, citing the Blue Shark Snorkel Trips group on Tuesday. The outing was organized.
“These incidents are extremely rare and can quickly be misunderstood,” the group said. “These things can happen when you choose to interact with wild animals in their environment,” he explained on Facebook.
Blue sharks, which can be up to four meters in length, visit UK waters in the summer. Fishermen, spend most of their time on the high seas eating fish and shellfish.
The blue shark has been classified as a “Near Threatened” species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. They are highly valued for their meat and their fins are regularly caught in fishing nets.
