Fado Festival in Morocco comes to Rabat and Casablanca

The Fado Festival will organize its sixth edition in a row in Morocco on September 8 and 9, 2023, under the slogan “Fado and the Portuguese Guitar”. The opportunity will be to raise awareness of the main focus of this nineteenth-century music, namely the Portuguese guitar with twelve strings in the form of a figure eight. This legacy will be celebrated with a headline address made up of two great names in Fado.

This is how the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat hosts on Friday, September 8, a concrete performance by singer Cristina Branco, who celebrated the 25th anniversary of her musical career in 2022, accompanied by guitarist Bernardo Couto. The latter himself considers one of the best Portuguese guitarists of his generation.

The next day, Saturday 8 September, the duo will perform at the Studio Arts Vivantes in Casablanca. Fado Festival organizes two free activities, on the same day and at the same venue. This will be the screening of the documentary “Artur entre paredes” (2021) by Portuguese director Ivan Dias, which explores the life and work of visual artist Artur Boal. The conference will also focus on the Portuguese Guitar, led by guitarist Bernardo Couto.

This meeting will allow us to learn more about the guitar as a versatile instrument and to highlight the technical potential of the Portuguese guitar.
