Football: Benfica-Liverpool agree on Darwin Nunez’s transfer to the Reds

The Portuguese club announced, today, Monday, that Liverpool and Benfica Lisbon have reached an agreement on the transfer of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica for 75 million euros.

Benfica Lisbon added in a statement that the deal could reach 100 million euros, depending on bonuses linked to specific sporting goals, which would make Nunez the most expensive player in Reds history.

The Uruguayan, who is also tracked by Manchester United, is due to pass his medical card on Monday before formalizing his transfer to the European and England deputies.

Darwin Nunez, who will turn 23 on June 26, arrived in Lisbon in the summer of 2020 from UD Almeria (Spanish second division) with the rating of the most expensive junior in Benfica history (€24 million).

After a mixed first year, this season exploded with distinction in particular against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals, despite Lisbon’s elimination (3-1, 3-3).

In total, the Uruguay international scored 47 goals and assisted 16 in 84 matches in the red shirt of the Lisbon Eagles.
