Her family announced on Tuesday that the former First Lady of the United States, Rosalynn Carter, suffers from a neurodegenerative disorder, while her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, was in palliative care at home.

The family said in a statement that she “still lives happily at home with her husband,” the 95-year-old in Plains, Georgia (south), and welcomed her work in the field of mental health.
“We hope that sharing this news will lead to more conversation about this important topic around the family table and in doctors’ offices across the country,” she added.
In February, the Carter Foundation announced that the 98-year-old former Democratic president was in palliative care at home, wanting to “take the time he had left” after a series of hospitalizations.
Jimmy Carter occupied the White House from 1977 to 1981 and served only one term as president. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, particularly for his “decades of tireless efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts.”
