Kylian Mbappé and his teammates painfully dominated the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Friday, July 5 in Hamburg (0-0, tab 5-3), to reach the semi-finals of the European Nations Championship in Germany where they will challenge the Spaniards.

Nearly 12.7 million viewers tuned in to watch France's hard-fought win over Portugal (0-0, 5 goals to 3) in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals on Friday on M6, according to figures released by Médiamétrie on Saturday, July 6.

This audience of 12.656 million represents 58% of the audience share, meaning that more than half of the people who were in front of the TV since the match kicked off at 9pm were watching this match.

This is the Blues' best result on French television this year, and therefore since the start of the competition. Their first two matches, against Austria (1-0) on June 17 and then the Netherlands (0-0) on June 21, attracted 11.2 and 10.2 million viewers respectively.

In contrast, the match against Poland (1-1) in the first round on the 25th attracted only 9.3 million viewers, while the match against Belgium (1-0) in the round of 16 attracted 10.99 million viewers. Both were broadcast at 6:00 p.m.

France will face Spain in the semi-final on Tuesday, July 9 at 9pm. The meeting is scheduled at M6.

So far, the Blues' matches, broadcast by TF1 or M6, seem to have a lower audience than the previous edition in 2021, even if the numbers cannot be compared precisely because Médiamétrie has developed its own measurement system.

This difference is largely due to intense political news, with early legislative elections, which may have reduced media exposure to the euro.

In 2021, France's elimination from the round of 16 against Switzerland on penalties was watched by more than 16.3 million viewers.

The Blues' first three Euro 2021 matches, against Germany, Hungary and then Portugal, attracted 15.1 million, 12.3 million and 15.6 million viewers respectively.
