Garmin has released a new software update for its mid-range smartwatch, after fixing a bug that crashed the system

Garmin continues to roll out new updates to most of its existing products at a regular pace, including the Fenix 7. The same does not apply to the Venu Sq 2. ($244.99 currently on Amazon), which rarely takes advantage of new firmware, even when Garmin introduces system-busting bugs. So it took until the end of last month for Garmin to admit that it had disabled the installation of apps and watch faces in an update distributed two months ago.

Our engineers fixed a backend bug last night. The problem should now be resolved. If you are still experiencing this disruption, please let me know.

Soon after, the company released software version 2.66, which updates the Venu Sq 2 from software version 2.64. According to a Garmin forum post, software version 2.66 only improves system stability and brings undisclosed “improvements to Connect IQ.” Additionally, the update includes new Sensor Hub software, mobile translations, and text languages. The new update should hit all Venu Sq 2 units, however, software version 2.66 can be downloaded via Garmin Express and Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM) if your smartwatch is stuck on an older version.
