Haute Katanga: UNICEF sends a medical team from Sweden to strengthen the response against cholera in Lubumbashi

Officials from Haute-Katanga province received some healthcare workers from the Kingdom of Sweden in Lubumbashi on February 21. Their trip comes within the framework of the fight against cholera, which has struck the main city in the region in recent weeks. This news was confirmed by Kabwe Eme, the chief medical officer in the Kenya region, who indicated that guests were being received at the cholera treatment center located in the town of Kenya.

He added: “Today the toll stands at more than 700 cases, including approximately 260 children, most of whom are students.” We have recorded more than 40 deaths. The arrival of the medical team from Sweden will be able to offer its expertise in patient care. This team was headed by the head of the UNICEF office in Lubumbashi. He confirmed that the delegation was received at the cholera treatment center in the city.

The health district director also confirmed that difficulties related to the dignified burial of cholera victims remain a problem at the present time.

However, the cholera treatment center in Lubumbashi has five tents and more than 60 beds.
