Scottish striker and former Seattle Sounders Jockey Scott has named Brazilian legend Pele the best player in football history.
Scott believed Pele was a superior player to Argentina captain Lionel Messi and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pele, who died last Thursday at the age of 82, played for the New York Cosmos club in North America for two years, before hanging up his boots, he was part of the club’s victory in the 1977 soccer championship against the Seattle Sounders.
Referring to Pele, who won three World Cups with Brazil, Scott, 74, said the modern game, which emphasized avoiding tackles, would have allowed players like Pele, the late Diego Maradona, George Best and Johan Cruyff to do more than they otherwise would. they did in their time.
“I think you have to learn about the different eras of football, and over the last 10 or 15 years with Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, they deserve credit for being the best players,” Scott told Stat Platforms via Yahoo Sports.
“But I think they are the best players of that era, or were the best players of that era.”
He added: “I will always say that Pele is definitely the best player [GOAT]. »
“To be honest, I think any players like Pele, Maradona, George Best, Cruyff – attacking players who are great and they can all score goals – these days, the way the game is played where you are basically not allowed to tackle anyone, I think they would be much better players.”
