The head and hands of a 16-year-old girl, last seen in 2005, were found in a freezer at a Colorado home as the new owner prepared to part with the old appliance.
“Upon arrival, police discovered that a human head and hands had been discovered in the refrigerator by someone who came to claim the free appliance provided by the new owner of the recently sold home,” the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said. Friday statement, ABC News reported.
Nine months after the horrific discovery of human remains in the freezer of a recently purchased home, investigators have identified the victim as Amanda Liariel Overstreet, a 16-year-old girl who was last seen in 2005.
We can read in the press release that the young woman was not reported missing by her relatives.
She was the biological daughter of one of the previous owners of the house, on Binion Street, which passed into the hands of a new buyer around January, according to ABC News.
While wanting to give away an old refrigerator that was sold with the house, the remains of the young woman were discovered inside it.
Local authorities immediately opened an investigation to try to formally identify the victim and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance: the work, which lasted several months, was made possible “thanks to DNA tests,” according to the police.
“Amanda is believed to have been approximately 16 years old at the time of her disappearance. [Elle] “He has not been seen or heard from since April 2005,” the police force said.
Forensic tests are still underway to try to shed light on the teenager's death, while the police called on local residents to respect the privacy of the new owner of the house, who “will not have any connection to the previous case,” as we can read in the press release.
