Remember, last year we learned that Nintendo intends to buy Dynamo Pictures, a Japanese 3D animation company that is used to short films and other advertisements. One year after the start of the merger, the animation studio became wholly owned by Nintendo, effective October 3, 2022. A full acquisition allows Kyoto to rename the studio to Nintendo Pictures, with the primary and overall goal of focusing on producing visual content intended for internal licenses. On the official Dynamo Pictures website, it is written that through their videos, they are committed to bringing Nintendo characters to people all over the world and creating unique videos that will forever be engraved in their memory.
Be warned, it’s not Dynamo Pictures that is currently working on the animated Super Mario movie, but Illumination Studios, which has also announced that the first trailer will be released during New York Comic-Con next October 6. In contrast, Dynamo Pictures is best known for its work on Yuri on Ice, Aya, The Witch, and the second season of Netflix’s Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045. The company also worked on CGI for Final Fantasy XIII-2 and provided all motion capture for titles like Death Stranding, Nier Replicant, Monster Hunter World, and Persona 5. Nintendo previously called the company for Metroid Other M’s CG cutscenes, and even produced a series of Pikmin shorts In collaboration with Shigeru Miyamoto for the promotional campaign on Wii U and 3DS. After PlayStation Productions and today Nintendo Pictures, we know that video games are not enough for those manufacturers who rely on multimedia to emulate each other more.
