Abra McDonald, 49, was charged Sept. 8 with willful abuse or neglect of an adult after her mother died in a fall last June.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, located in Arkansas, police officers went to Karen McDonald’s home on June 27, and she was immediately taken to the hospital.
Karen, Abra’s mother, was found lying on the floor of the house. She then told police officers that she had fallen and that she had been in the same spot on the floor for several weeks.
The sheriff’s office said Karen McDonald died the next day as a result of the “physical trauma she suffered.”
Investigators learned that the deceased lived with her daughter, Abra McDonald.
The girl “did not attempt for several weeks to contact anyone to help her mother get back on her feet, despite having a cell phone and nearby neighbors,” the sheriff’s office said.
The house also did not have running water.
According to WKYT-TV, sepsis and other neglect led to Karen McDonald’s death.
“She was giving him food, things like that, but leaving her on the ground was the most harmful to his health,” Lt. Matt Bryant told WKYT.
