Dense fog caused a major collision involving more than 160 cars, killing 7 people and injuring at least 63 others on Monday in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana.
On Saturday, authorities confirmed the results of this accident that occurred on the I-55 highway, which caused a large fire that spread among the vehicles involved, CNN reported.
About 25 wounded were transferred to the hospital to receive treatment, and their injuries ranged from minor to serious.
A tanker truck carrying a flammable substance, the identity of which was not revealed by the authorities, contributed to fueling the fire and accelerating its spread.
The dense fog responsible for Monday’s poor visibility is believed to have been caused by smoke from several nearby forest fires.
During the week, all cars were removed from the road, but authorities were still working on Saturday to remove debris that was still on the road.
However, traffic was able to resume in one direction on the highway on Thursday.
