Teachers at an Australian high school who allegedly posed awkwardly over a calendar displayed in a staff room have been criticized after images were shared online.
“This is a complete disregard for respect for the school, parents, community, students and other teachers. This is simply unacceptable. Since the beginning of the week, Balmoral State High School in Australia has been in the headlines despite itself after photos of some of its teachers wearing golden mankinis, a nun's habit, or even spilling milk on each other, were circulated on the Internet.
The photos, which Queensland senator Matt Canavan deemed “embarrassing”, were allegedly taken as part of a photo shoot inside the school itself, of a calendar on display in the staff room.
“I don't want to be arrogant,” he said on the “Today” show. “They might have a little fun.” It's probably more embarrassing for them than for anyone else.
According to the press agency, the photos ended up being published on the Internet after an unanswered complaint was filed against him in December.
Despite the impact the photos had on the school organization, many parents spoke up for the “great, supportive teachers” who support their children on a daily basis, one told 9News.
Another added, according to the news agency: “They did something stupid, that's all they did.”
An Australian Department of Education spokesperson had indicated that the situation would currently be under investigation.
“All employees are expected to adhere to high standards of conduct and conduct,” he was quoted as saying, according to news.com.au.
