(Milan) The Italian Football Association announced, on Wednesday, in a press statement, that Jose Mourinho, coach of the Roma club, was deprived of a seat on the bench during the first two days of the Italian championship next season, due to insulting a referee.


The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has granted Portugal a ten-day suspension from the start of the 2023/24 season. Serie A resumes on the weekend of August 19 and 20.

Jose Mourinho is being punished for saying about referee Daniele Chevy, who officiated during Roma’s trip to Monza on May 3 in the league, that he was “the worst referee he’s ever met in his career.”

He said of him: “He is terrible, makes no human contact and feels no sympathy.” Both men were chatting during and after the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Both the coach and his club will have to pay a fine of 50,000 euros ($72,000).

Jose Mourinho will also miss Roma’s first four matches in the European League next season under a penalty decided by the European Football Association for insulting another referee, the Englishman Anthony Taylor, who whistled during the European League final, which was lost on May 31 by Seville.
