MI Jolie says she is ready to cooperate with China on certain issues, but adds that Russia should be treated as a pariah.
The Canadian minister will participate in a series of international summits, as will Russian Minister Sergei Lavrov.
She would have refused to do so, even if she had been invited to the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) or the G-20. according to mI Jolly, meeting Mr. Lavrov would legitimize the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The minister had recently said that Canada would try to restrict its relations with China, expressing concerns on a range of topics ranging from human rights to the issue of intellectual property.
However, m.I Jolie says she would agree to meet with Chinese leaders because Canada wants to work together on things like climate change.
In fact, you would expect to be seated close to the Chinese representative during the G-20 which will take place on November 15-16 in Bali, Indonesia. Seats are arranged alphabetically by country during these major international meetings.
“There is a power struggle going on,” the minister said. Our goal is to isolate Russia economically, politically and diplomatically. »
MI Jolie said Lavrov left the G20 foreign ministers meeting last summer after mounting pressure against Russia.
There is a growing consensus that what is happening in Ukraine is totally unacceptable. »
