As part of a project called “Women in science“, Federal National Association of Scientific University Students (Avenues) regulates her First Conference “Women in Science” who stands February 18, 19 and 20 at the Cité des Sciences in Paris. About the program, conferences and meetings…
This event aims to Spotlight on women In scientific careers and courses, to dismantle gender prejudices and stereotypes but also to highlight the diversity of scientific professions and professions.
IRSN, the project partner, will be present at the event with a platform to share the experiences of its collaborators. On this occasion, we present you with a series of selfies.
Isabelle Musabini
Isabella, responsible for evaluating radiological and nuclear risk control, tells of her heterogeneous career punctuated by rich discoveries that led her directly to a diploma in industrial chemical risk management and to major career successes. For her, education is the basis of the ideas received about women and science, and even if society changes, we must continue to break down barriers.
Can you tell us your background in a few words?
Growing up in a family of scientists, I was immersed in science from a young age. As a result, the question did not arise much and I followed a classic path in this field. Classic yet diverse: a year in integrated preparatory classes, up to a foray into the audiovisual sector, before returning to science up to a master’s degree in Industrial Chemical Risk Management. Furthermore, chemistry is a fairly scientific field in contrast to, for example, computer science or electronics.
Then I finished my internship at the end of my studies at IRSN, and I loved it. Decided to come back after a few years!
Tell us about the moment that made you proud of your trip.
During a professional experience, when I was performing for the CEA of Saclay, my manager at the time entrusted me with an important portfolio despite my inexperience. It included the drafting of a request file to modify the ventilation of a nuclear facility. In the end, things went well and I was proud that people trusted me. This kind of positive experience gives confidence for the rest of his career!
What do you think of the ideas being received that make women out of number in the scientific community?
Among the misconceptions, the most important is the belief that women are more literary and boys are better at mathematics. Education affects children’s future because we tend to direct young boys towards construction toys and mechanics… which is not the case for little girls. However, society is now changing. We must continue this movement towards a less rigid education. I also think women shouldn’t put up barriers anymore. To dare more and accept the risk. It doesn’t matter if you’re not perfect! Finally, regarding professions, questions about maternity can be blocked in some companies. At IRSN, there are a lot of women who are head of offices, so these issues don’t really exist. It is important to say that in the professional world things can go well!
