Israeli technology will be used aboard NASA’s first integrated test of the Orion spacecraft, called the Artemis 1 mission, according to the Israel Space Agency.
The journey into space will take six weeks with a journey of approximately 40,000 miles or 6,4373.76 km to the moon. This will be NASA’s first mission to the Moon in 50 years.
“We are honored to be one of the few countries that managed to introduce the original technology of Artemis 1. The fact that the Israeli flag is flying in space makes us proud,” the Israel Space Agency said.
Thousands of observers will test the level of protection of the “doll” Zohar during the experiment. If successful, this experiment could lay the foundation for a long-term human presence in space. Israeli technology, in turn, could be used for future space missions to the Moon and Mars.
Earlier in April, Israeli investor and former combat pilot Eitan Stipe became the second Israeli in space by participating in the first fully private mission launched to the International Space Station.
The first Israeli in space was Ilan Ramon, who died along with six NASA crew members in the 2003 space shuttle Columbia disaster.
