Issuance of Moroccan and Curios postage stamps to celebrate the Moroccan-Portuguese treaties

Morocco Post and CTT Correios de Portugal unveiled a joint issue of postage stamps, commemorating two important events: the 250th anniversary of the Peace Treaty and the 30th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation between Morocco and Portugal.

The official ceremony was held on October 7, 2024 at the Moroccan Post Museum in Rabat, in the presence of Carlos Pereira Márquez, Ambassador of Portugal to Morocco, Amine Benjelloun Tuimi, Director General of Post Morocco, as well as many diplomatic and cultural figures.

This joint issue consists of two stamps illustrating the symbolic landmarks of the two countries. The Moroccan stamp represents the scaffold of the port of Essaouira, built in the 18th century by Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah, signatory of the 1774 peace treaty. This historic site, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizes the importance of marine and maritime tourism. Trade relations between the two countries. The Portuguese character, for its part, is illustrated by Lisbon's Trade Square, a central location for Portuguese maritime trade, dominated by the equestrian statue of King Joseph I, a signatory of the same treaty.

This special issue was launched simultaneously in Morocco and Portugal and joins a long tradition of cooperation in the field of stamp collecting between the Kingdom and various countries. Among the most recent joint releases are those carried out with Romania and Oman in 2024, Serbia in 2022, and the Dominican Republic and Tunisia in 2021, in addition to previous collaborations with Monaco, Ukraine, Qatar, Belgium, France and the United States. .
