The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is the body that ensures coherent and consistent administration of the Laws of the Game with football traditions.
On 12 April 2023, the President of the Cameroonian National Football Federation (SYNAFOC) Jeremy Sorel Ngetab Fotso was appointed a member of the Football Advisory Committee. This advisory group, made up of former players such as Portuguese Luis Figo or Nigerian Daniel Amokachi, famous coaches such as Frenchman Arsene Wenger, brings their experience and knowledge to discussions on football and sporting aspects and proposes modifications to the work of the IFAB.
The IFAB consists of the four British football associations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), each with one vote, and FIFA (representing the remaining 207 associations), which has four votes. This formation ensures that the laws of the game are administered according to football traditions and different national realities. Approval of a motion requires a three-fourths majority.
By bringing together personalities from the world of football, including former players and referees, the football team and technical advisory groups contribute to the decision-making mechanism of the IFAB Technical Subcommittee. Approval of changes to the Laws of the Game is only possible at the annual general meeting of the IFAB, which is attended by the general meeting (consisting of the main representatives of the IFAB).
The Annual General Meeting normally takes place in the months of February/March and is held alternately in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as other countries designated by FIFA in years of the FIFA World Cup™.
