The Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE) won the fourth stage of the Tour de Catalunya, Thursday, upon his arrival at the Puy Tawell resort, ahead of the Colombian Nairo Quintana, the new leader of the event.
Almeida set off ahead of his last comrades, Nairo Quintana and Colombian Sergio Higuita, at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters above sea level. Australian leader Ben O’Connor fired 1,700 meters from the finish and agreed to 23 seconds.
In the general classification, Quintana and Almeida are separated, at the same time, by adding places in the different finishes of the stages.
On Friday, the fifth stage descends to the plain on the 206 km route between La Pobla de Segur and Vilanova i la Geltru.
