The technician, who won the Portuguese championship three times with Benfica Lisbon and the 2019 Libertadores Cup with Brazilian club Flamengo, will lead Fenerbahçe to its first title in nine years. But the Istanbul club, which finished second in the Premier League this season behind Galatasaray, has not won the Turkish championship since 2014, and it is an eternity for its supporters.
The Turkish press praised and adored Fenerbahçe fans at the start of the season, and the Portuguese, who arrived in Istanbul a year ago, has seen some of his tactical choices come under heavy criticism in recent months.
