The King of Spain arrived in Portugal on the evening of May 3, 2022. The day before the 15th Cotec Europe Summit, King Felipe met Portuguese President Rebelo de Sousa and Italian President Mattarella, with whom he shared dinner at the Dukes Palace of Braganza.

On May 4, 2022, the COTECH Europe 2022 Summit will be held, the theme of which this year will be “Culture meets innovation”. Since 2005, the Cotec Europe Summit has brought together the heads of state of Spain, Italy and Portugal, the three countries in which Cotec participates. The summit, in turn, is held in one of the three countries. Representatives of bodies, business leaders and personalities from the world of innovation in Europe in particular at the meeting.
King Felipe, who was received by the Duchess of Arcos in Madrid on May 3, flew in the evening to reach Portugal. He was accompanied on this trip by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calvino. Upon arrival at Porto-Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport, King Felipe was received by the Spanish Ambassador to Lisbon Marta Betanzos.

After the traditional military tribute on the tarmac, King Philip was taken to Guimarães, to the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza. This medieval castle, located in northeastern Portugal, was built at the request of Alfonso, Count of Barcelos, Lord Guimarães, the illegitimate son of King John I.Verse Portugal, who would receive the title of Duke of Braganza in 1442. He is the founder of the House of Braganza, the ancestor of the future kings of Portugal.
At the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, King Felipe met with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, and Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic. They had dinner together before attending the summit the next day at the Circo Theater in Braga. Discussions revolved around tangible and intangible cultural heritage as a strategic asset.
