summary
Majestic, it has stood more than 300 meters high in the Parisian sky for more than 130 years. The Iron Lady is a symbol of progress and excess, attracting nearly 6 million visitors each year.
Paris in 1889, at the Universal Exhibition, Gustave Eiffel achieves the impossible, the dream of all engineers: the tallest tower in the world, the Eiffel Tower. In the heart of Paris, he built this 300-metre-tall giant in just two years, two months and five days. Drawing on a previously unpublished story, the documentary offers a fascinating journey through Eiffel’s oeuvre to better understand the extraordinary challenge faced by the Iron Lady. For the first time, we will discover that this revolutionary tower, which was painted red when it was inaugurated, would not have existed without three decades of innovations in the four corners of the world, which made this iron magician famous. From the pedestrian bridge in Bordeaux to the majestic Garabette Bridge in Cantal, from the metal frame of the Statue of Liberty in New York to the portable bridges recently discovered in Vietnam, these works of art prefigured the Eiffel Tower.
How did this legendary tower arise after a crazy race against time?
What human and technological challenges did Eiffel and its engineers face during this exceptional project?
And how, thanks to advances in science, especially wireless telegraphy, will Eiffel be able to save his tower from destruction?
Twenty years after its construction, the monument is in danger of disappearing… Nothing will stop its maker, who will then embark on an extraordinary scientific adventure to save this wonder of the modern world.
