One day before its broadcast on its platform, Netflix finally decided to share the trailer for the documentary dedicated to the disappearance of the little girl Madeleine McCann, nicknamed Maddie, who disappeared in 2007 in Portugal. The parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, did not want to be involved in the documentary which they believed could hinder the ongoing legal investigation.
Big blue-green eyes, golden hair, face of an angel. Maddie's disappearance is a tragedy many parents fear and a mystery that has stunned thousands of people for years.
On May 3, 2007, little Madeleine McCann, a three-year-old British girl, disappeared and showed no other sign of life while on holiday with her parents in Portugal. The girl, who has been missing for 11 years, would have celebrated her 16th birthday on May 12.
This story, which led to an international investigation and unprecedented media coverage, gave Netflix the idea to produce a unique documentary. The streaming giant has unveiled the trailer for this documentary titled “The disappearance of Madeleine McCann“This is Thursday, March 14, one day before the official release of the first season on the platform, scheduled for Friday, March 15.
The parents did not want to participate in this documentary
However, the little girl's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, received countless proposals for scripts to bring the horrific story of their daughter's kidnapping to screen, but to no avail. After 120 hours of interviews, 40 people, and many decaying archives, as well as reconstructions, the parents did not want to participate in this documentary, even though it was amazing, unlike their friends who responded alongside journalists and investigators.
Commissioned by Netflix in 2017 and produced by Pulse Films and Paramount Television, the documentary is directed by Chris Smith, who distinguished himself with the event documentary Fyre: The Best Festival That Never Happened, also released in 2019 on Netflix.
