Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez announced on Sunday that a Spanish volunteer aid worker was killed in Ukraine after her car was hit by a shell.

According to the NGO that employed him, Road to Relief, there were three other aid workers in the car, one of whom, a Canadian, was killed, and the other two, from Germany and Sweden, were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
“A projectile fell on the car in which this Spanish citizen was traveling. She worked there for an NGO working to improve the humanitarian situation in Ukraine,” the minister announced, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in India, claiming to have received “verbal confirmation of her death.”
Mr. Albarez did not provide further information, but Spanish media identified the volunteer as Emma Igual, 32, director of Road to Relief, a humanitarian organization registered in France and Ukraine, according to its website, and dedicated to evacuating civilians away from the area.
