“I expect the police to evacuate these illegal camps, and that is what McGill has requested,” the Prime Minister said Thursday at a press conference in the National Assembly.

However, the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a request for an injunction from two students aimed at curbing pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus and forcing the dismantling of the camp.

François Legault was not offended. It is believed that the tents set up by demonstrators on the university campus in solidarity with Gaza do not respect the law.

The Prime Minister still leaves it to the police to choose the best time to act. “I will leave it to the police to decide how and when to do this, but the camps must be dismantled,” he insisted.

But François Legault disagrees with the mayor of Hampstead, who is asking the Canadian government to review its immigration plan for Gazans. According to Jeremy Levy, they clearly have “values that conflict with ours.” “I do not wish to welcome more hate into our country,” the mayor wrote on X.

Many SPVM agents were mobilized in the final hours around the camp, while a counter-demonstration is scheduled for Thursday afternoon near the university campus.

Officers on bicycles block the main entrance to the site while several SPVM vehicles are in the surrounding streets.

At 12:30 p.m., Thursday afternoon, a demonstration is scheduled in front of the camp by Stand With Us Canada, a pro-Israel group.
