After hosting a Science Comedy to discuss climate and critical thinking with all seniors, on Tuesday 11 October, Physics and Chemistry students from Lycée Chaptal celebrated Science in Montpellier.
Senior students discovered the Montpellier School of Chemistry (ENSCM), but also got involved. Taking advantage of ultra-equipped laboratory rooms, they extracted cardamom by hydro-distillation.
Next, they step into the apothecary’s shoes by creating an ambient fragrance from natural essential oil diluents.
As for the first-grade high schools, they took part in guided tours of the Montpellier Botanical Garden. And on the science side, they saw the medical school’s historical anatomy collection.
in projection into the future
The teachers accompanying the students announced that the results of this day of discovery in Montpellier were very positive. All high school students in attendance were able to appreciate different aspects of science outside of the usual classroom. This helps them think about the future direction of their studies.
They thank Isabelle Parrot-Smietana of ENSCM for this organisation.
