An 18-year-old graduate from Louisiana has been missing for two days after falling from a boat in the Bahamas during a graduation ceremony, school officials said.
A spokeswoman for Louisiana State University told CNN that Cameron Robbins was on a cruise to celebrate the end of his studies at Laboratory University High School in Baton Rouge, when he fell overboard on Wednesday night.
The institution is run by the university’s College of Humanities and Education. Robbins attended the school for his entire 13 years, principal Kevin George told CNN affiliate WBRZ.
“He’s a special kid who’s been here his whole educational life. He’s athletic, a big boy, with a big smile, and beautiful hair,” George said.
“The children called us to see if they could make a prayer circle. Of course we agreed. We really appreciate their initiative in this difficult time.”
The US Coast Guard participated in the search with the Royal Bahamas Defense Force team, the Coast Guard tweeted Thursday. Robbins reportedly fell into the sea while on a sunset cruise near the capital, Nassau.
CNN contacted the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the Royal Bahamas Police Force without receiving an immediate response.
