Morocco and Portugal: Signing an operating agreement

Rabat and Lisbon sign an agreement on the employment and residence of Moroccan workers in Portugal

Morocco and Portugal signed, on Wednesday, an agreement for the employment and residence of Moroccan workers in Portugal, within the framework of the dynamics of modernizing the partnership tools between the two countries.

This agreement began following a video meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Portuguese Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Augusto Santos Silva, and this agreement aims to respond efficiently to the growing growth. Demanding Moroccan workers to take advantage of the job opportunities available in the Portuguese economic fabric.

It aims to define the admission and residency procedures applicable to Moroccan citizens to exercise a professional activity in the Portuguese Republic, as well as to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of managing regular migration flows.

As a result, this agreement provided for a number of provisions, including the process of selecting and hiring workers, general working and training conditions, family reunification, social security and taxes.

Under this agreement, the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) and its Portuguese counterpart, IEFP, will be responsible for implementing its provisions, under the supervision of the relevant government authorities.

The second agreement of its kind signed by Portugal (the first with India), provides for the establishment of a joint commission consisting of representatives of the competent authorities of both parties (employment and consular services) in order to ensure regular monitoring and exchange of information.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mr. Mohamed Seddiqi, and the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Mr. Younes Skouri.
