Nintendo acquires animation studio

Today we learned some rather surprising news, as Nintendo is acquiring an animation studio and renaming it Nintendo Pictures.

Nintendo has announced that it would acquire Dynamo Pictures, a Tokyo-based animation studio responsible for several short films based on the Pikmin franchise. The purchase was announced to Us today, along with Nintendo’s plans to rename the studio to Nintendo Pictures Co Ltd. The new studio’s focus will be developing visual content for several Nintendo franchises.

The studio purchase should be completed on October 3, if all goes as planned.
