An Indiana police officer managed to save a woman who choked on food and couldn’t breathe.
The patrol car’s surveillance camera captured the entire scene in which the young policeman first attempted the Heimlich maneuver, according to CNN.
While Officer Jerry Weber of the Noble County Sheriff’s Office would have practiced the maneuver on dummies, doing it on someone in an emergency situation is another matter.
“I’ve never done that before, I’ve never seen anyone do that!” the young policeman told CNN journalist Gene Moss in an interview.
“I was like, ‘I think this will work!'”
Officer Weber was piloting his cruiser when he heard the live 911 call.
“She was trying to talk to me, but she couldn’t,” he said when he got there.
“She had the cosmic signs of a choking person. I was afraid of hurting her, even though I had done it three or four times. I stopped and asked her if she could breathe. She shook her head no.”
After a few maneuvers, she was finally able to speak and say “ouch my back, my back”!
This was a clear sign that the stuck-on food had come out. “I think it was fry,” the policeman adds.
The rescued lady lives alone in her car.
The policeman said he was relieved and happy that his life was saved.
