Résidences du Bel-Âge, in Outaouais, in exchange for good care, will welcome 1 studentany Next August.
Alexandre Chevalier, 21 years old, is a student in specialized educational technologies at the Cégep de l'Outaouais.
In exchange for involvement with the adults, the young man will be housed and fed.
“It's really a great project for me and the residents who live here,” he said.
This initiative aims to create dialogue between generations.
“It is a project funded by the Youth Secretariat’s Intergenerational Exchange Programme, and the program covers all project costs, including the student’s rent and five meals a week. In return, the student must complete at least 40 hours of volunteer work per month. For example, he might attend walking club on Saturday mornings, spend two evenings a week in the common room playing cards, and visit tenants who have fewer visitors.

Alexander is very optimistic about this experience.
“I'm someone who has a really good relationship with my grandparents. I worked in a youth center, so I know how to organize, plan and lead activities,” he added.
Among the elderly the opinions are unanimous: “[C’est une] “Nice surprise,” one resident said. “It has the same profile as my grandchildren. “So I actually like it,” another admitted.
The residents have already accepted him into the family. It will officially be there in a few weeks.
