Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama revealed that he spoke with Meloni about the case of a group of Italian tourists who passed out without paying their restaurant bill in the historic UNESCO-listed city.

She made a face and gave this order to the ambassador, the Albanian prime minister told the Italian daily La Stampa: “Pay the bill for these idiots, please, and make a statement!” Italy cannot be insulted in this way.

The story of these Italian tourists who left without paying their bill made headlines in the Albanian media and around social networks.

The Italian Embassy in Albania confirmed on Friday that it had paid a bill of 80 euros that this group of four Italian tourists had not paid.

“Based on the recommendations of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, we have settled this bill, which was left unpaid by a group of Italian tourists in the town of Berat,” said a statement from the embassy. Italians respect the rules and pay their debts, hopefully this kind of incident will not happen again.

The rise in prices this summer has been reflected by an increase in the number of Italians who have decided to spend their holidays on the other side of the Adriatic.
