Joao Cancelo and Gonzalo Guedes handed the win to Cristiano Ronaldo’s team Thursday night, in Lisbon, during the third day of Group B.
Portugal beat the Czech Republic 2-0 and consolidated their lead at the top of Group B thanks to superb Bernardo Silva, two-passer, Thursday in Lisbon for the third day of the League of Nations. Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo opened the scoring with a powerful dry shot (1-0, 33 minutes) before Valencia winger Gonzalo Guedes entered the first half shortly after his shot (2-0.38).

The Portuguese initially had difficulties finding a solution and establishing their hold against a well-assembled Czech block in defence. Only Cristiano Ronaldo set a goal from the Lusitan side in the first half hour, but his attempt was unsuccessful (10). Then the 2016 European champions rose to a higher level. Cancelo asked Bernardo Silva on the right side who gave him the ball in the race with the entire surface: then the side fired a powerful shot to score the first goal, 100% made in Manchester City (1-0, 33).
Bernardo Silva in all the right moves
Five minutes later, Bernardo Silva, once again, fired Gonzalo Guedes at the rear, as the former Paris Saint-Germain player brilliantly crossed his shot from the right to give air to his team (2-0, 38). Cristiano Ronaldo could have scored just before the break and the ball was hit five times with the Ballon d’Or that ended by a narrow margin (45+1).
Returning from the locker room, the Portuguese were able to achieve their supremacy by setting a low pace for the match. Diogo Jota tried to add a third goal, but the heavy blow for the Liverpool striker was delivered by Czech goalkeeper Jendrich Stanek, who had a good save (61).
At the end of this third day, Portugal consolidated its lead at the top of Group B with 7 points. Spain moved to second place after beating Switzerland 1-0 in the evening and has 5 points. The Czech Republic came in third place with 4 points, while Switzerland ended the march without a single unit in its tracks. On Sunday, Portugal (8:45 pm) will travel to Geneva to face Switzerland there as part of the fourth day, while at the same time, Spain will receive the Czechs in Malaga.
