Portugal succeeded in its first mission against Qatar by defeating Turkey 3-1, but it was not easy in the end for the Lusitanians, as the Turks missed a penalty kick in the 85th minute, when the score was 2-1. Next stop: North Macedonia, defeat of Italy.
The Euro 2016 winners made a convincing start to the game, but were again caught in their own mistakes after Otavio's opening score (15). They could have been punished, but Ander (21), Kutlu (23) and Yilmaz (26) were unable to equalize.
Fortunately for the Portuguese, they scored 2-0 once they decided to go out. On the right side, Otavio sent a long cross towards Diogo Jota, who “scored” with a powerful header (42).
Penalty shot in the sky
After leading almost 3-0, Portugal witnessed Burak Yilmaz deceive Costa after a good exchange with Cengiz Under (65, 2-1). This Turkish achievement damaged the morale of the Portuguese, who began to buckle against determined opponents and conceded a logical penalty. But Yilmaz fired his shot into the clouds, sparking huge jubilation at Dragon Stadium (85th place). Nunes ended the suspense in the 90+4 minute.
In the final match on Tuesday, North Macedonia will host, after a surprise defeat by European champion Italy in the other semi-final match (1-0).
