Portugal will test the four-day week system starting next June

Portugal will join the ever-growing list of countries launching experiments related to the four-day week. For Portugal, the pilot project will be launched in June 2023 for six months in the private sector. The government is currently looking for candidate companies for the test, before it can be implemented in the public sector. Conditions set by the Portuguese authorities mean that participating private companies will offer the four-day working week to as many of their employees as possible, while large groups will only be able to try this in a small number of subsidiaries. Another condition: that employers do not cut the salaries of those who will work only four days. In some cases this will lead to shorter working hours or, conversely, longer days, all determined by company agreements between management and employee representatives. Right now, employers seem reluctant to play the game. While some sectors, such as technology, culture or advertising, can implement this measure effectively, other sectors, including companies with customer services, will have more difficulty. , according to employers. The Trade and Services Union and the Tourism Union have already indicated that their priorities lie elsewhere, especially because of the energy crisis.
