Portuguese drivers Pedro Marreros and Paulo Pinheiro (Porsche) finished 3rd in the GT European Open Championship last weekend in Portimao. The duo raced in the AM class, marking their debut in the series.
Despite a three-place penalty that saw them start from fifth on the grid, the two Portuguese finished third in race two, repeating the result they achieved on Saturday, putting them seventh overall out of 16 entrants.
“It was a very complicated race, with some setbacks. After the start, I tried everything to get past third, but I didn’t have enough top speed, and it was very difficult to drive with a full tank. In the end, with the regularity of pace we showed, We managed to get back on the podium,” confirms Pedro Marreros.
Meanwhile, Paulo Pinheiro highlighted the “competitive pace” they were able to establish.
“We didn’t make any mistakes, and we kept the car intact, which is essential for us to win the podium,” he said.
The winners are Spaniards Ivan Velasco and Jorge Cabezas (Ferrari), who won both races of the weekend and are now leading the championship.
The Italian Glauco Soleri (Porsche) won the AM class.
The Portuguese are eighth in the championship with seven points.
The next round of the GT Cup Open Europe will take place in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) from May 26-28.
