The former Monaco coach is changing clubs after helping Al Hilal Saudi Arabia win the AFC Champions League.
The Dubai-based club announced that the Portuguese Leonardo Jardim, the former French champion with Monaco, will coach the Al-Ahly youth team, the fifth in the UAE Football League.
“An official contract has been signed with Portuguese Leonardo Jardim as coach of the team next seasonShabab Al-Ahly said on Twitter. Before joining Dubai Club, a seven-time national champion, the Portuguese coach had previously coached the Portuguese team Braga and Sporting, then Greek Olympiacos, and finally Monaco, the French champion in 2017.
In the wealthy Gulf emirate, 47-year-old Leonardo Jardim succeeds local coach Mahdi Ali, who left empty-handed at the local level last season but led the team to the AFC Champions League playoffs. The Portuguese led the Saudi club Al Hilal to win the AFC Champions League last season.
Leonardo Jardim had coached Riyadh Club between June 2021 and February 2022, before the Saudi team ended his contract by mutual agreement after the decline in the level of results in the local championship.
