Highlights
CWD is a serious infectious disease that affects several species of deer. It is transmitted through direct contact between animals or through a contaminated environment. If the disease spreads to Quebec, it could have significant impacts on deer populations.
In the fall of 2018, cases of CWD were discovered on a red deer farm in the Laurentians. From 2018 to 2023, measures were implemented to reduce the risk of disease spreading to wildlife near the affected farm.
In addition to regulatory measures, the MELCCFP continues to monitor CWD throughout Quebec.
