(Moscow) Russia announced, on Tuesday, the imposition of sanctions on US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and several members of their governments, in response to punitive measures against Moscow in relation to Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced in a press release that 13 American figures have been targeted, including Mr. Biden and his Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that this step “is the inevitable result of the path of extreme fear of Russia pursued by the current US administration.”
The exact nature of the sanctions was not specified, and the Russian ministry said only that they were taken “on the basis of the principle of reciprocity”.
In response to the Russian military intervention in Ukraine, the United States has notably banned Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, from entering its territory and announced a large number of economic sanctions.
Among the American figures subject to sanctions, we also find Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, US Chief of Staff Mark Milley, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, or CIA chief William Burns.
Even more surprising is the presence of former Secretary of State and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, as well as Hunter Biden, the son of the current US president.
In another press release, the Russian ministry also announced that it had sanctioned 313 Canadians, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and several of his ministers.
The Russian diplomat added that it would announce “very soon” additional sanctions against US military officials, elected officials, businessmen and media personalities.
At the same time, Russian diplomacy emphasized that it maintains “official relations (with the United States), when they correspond to our national interest.”
