Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Jana Malyar said, on Wednesday, a few hours after the announcement of the delivery of Western heavy tanks in Kyiv, that Russia is “in numerical superiority”, “intensifying” its fighting in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

“The fighting is escalating,” she said in a telegram, citing the area around Bakhmut, which Russian forces have been trying to occupy for several months, but also around the Voglidar region, southwest of Donetsk.
This is the first time that Vogledar, a town of about 15,000 people before the war, located in the southwestern part of the front line in the Donetsk region, is explicitly mentioned within the “intense” combat zones.
“The fighting is getting more intense,” Ms. Maliar said on Wednesday evening.
“Now in the Donbass, against their numerical and military superiority, our advantage lies on our side in the professionalism of the military leadership and the courage of the soldiers,” she asserted.
