It’s Jason Schreyer again from Bloomberg Which dispels recent doubts: instead of being developed in Texas at Aspyr who worked for two years on this project too big for him, a remake of KOTOR was commissioned “A Saber Interactive studio in Eastern Europe‘,” according to a Bloomberg reporter. Which is not surprising when we learn that the management of Saber Interactive has already announced that it will come to the rescue before development problems hit the headlines.
As a reminder, Aspyr is one of the twenty studios of Saber Interactive, which itself is one of eleven companies of the sprawling Embracer group. Saber Interactive recently released Evil Dead: The Game and is working on Space Marine 2 on behalf of Focus. In a sense, the new KOTOR release was under the responsibility of Saber Interactive, but a different team is now taking over.
Last week, while announcing Embracer’s results and its fairly loud new acquisitions, management mentioned moving an AAA game from one studio to another, without being overly explicit. Thanks to information previously published by Bloomberg, everyone realized that this was about reproducing KOTOR to escape the hands of Aspyr.
The impact of the studio change on the development schedule remains undetermined. Jason Schreyer insists that this new version will not be released for at least another two years of work. Indeed, if Embracer makes it clear to contributors that this studio change”It won’t cause much delayThis is probably only because the project never announced a launch window.
