“The second edition of Pink October organized by the Gaston Vibus Multiprofessional Health Center in Saint-Jean-de-Valga is considered a success from all points of view.” On this occasion, MSP teams, participants in the fight against cancer and local partners gathered during the “Cancer Prevention Health Day”, on Wednesday 9 October 2024. This day was organized around “One word: “Prevention”, with the participation and support of CPTS Ariège Pyrénées and Ariège Health Insurance, MSA, Ariège Cancer Association, ARS Occitanie, Ariège Mobile Prevention and the municipality of Saint-Jean-du-Falga.
A day filled with touches of solidarity, participation and coexistence, and characterized by two prominent stations. In order to raise awareness among the general public about breast cancer screening, Mammobile was present and was able to receive about forty people throughout the day. It is important to remember that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, affecting approximately 58,000 women annually in France. Thanks to medical advances in recent years, breast cancer can be cured in nine out of ten cases, if detected early.
A small village was established on the square
Throughout the chattels, a veritable village occurred. It consists of positions on different topics related to the prevention of different types of cancer and addiction: “Let's talk about breasts”, “Let's talk about papillomavirus”, “Let's talk about the colon”, “Let's talk about the prostate”, “Let's talk about tobacco.” ” MSP health professionals were able to count more than 200 visits, which is evidence of the real expectations of visitors.
Healthcare professionals and patients, young and old, were able to meet in a friendly atmosphere to discuss the interactive tools designed by the team. Educational tools that allow better visualization and understanding: mannequin for self-palpation of the breasts, mannequin for displaying the prostate, colorectal kits, smoking cessation kits, interactive quizzes on ideas about mammography, …
An essential day to be able to create exchanges between the public and health professionals. “The most important thing in cancer care is prevention.” It's a real success, with different players already thinking about the third edition, and wanting more innovation to create real momentum.
