After five draws and seven defeats, finally a victory for Salernitana: the team coached by Filippo Inzaghi eliminated Lazio on Saturday to win 2-1 during the thirteenth day of the Italian championship.
The Salerno club, in Campania, remains in 20th and last place in Serie A with eight points, but it is breathing easier: before the other meetings of the weekend, it is only two points away from 17th place, which is synonymous with maintenance.
Under the leadership of older brother Inzaghi, who was appointed at the beginning of October to replace Portuguese Paulo Sousa, Salernitana found hope, failing to collect points (five in five matches).
Lazio advanced on Saturday thanks to a penalty kick taken by Ciro Immobile (43rd), but the Salerno players took the lead in the second half thanks to Grigoris Kastanos (55th) and Antonio Candreva (66th).
Lazio is still on its way to reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League, and suffered a fifth defeat in seven away matches in the league, where Celtic will host Glasgow on Tuesday.
Maurizio Sarri’s team, the vice-champion of Italy 2023, is in tenth place with 17 points, 14 distances behind leaders Inter, who travel to Turin on Sunday to face runner-up Juventus.
