An attempted rebellion by the Wagner Group has disastrous consequences for Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is the opinion expressed by the head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa, Dominic Ariel, in an interview with LCN.

“I don’t think anyone could have imagined, even among our Ukrainian friends, such a revelation of the situation,” he says.
Unlike other analysts, Mr. Ariel does not believe Wagner’s attack was done with the Russian president’s approval.
It cannot be managed because it is a humiliation for Putin. It is to show the whole world how weak Russia is, ”the specialist argues.
The latter mentions that the Wagner Group, through its successes in Ukraine, has become a major offensive force within the Russian military.
“It’s such a rebellious group […]It’s very embarrassing for Russia, “Dominique Ariel confirms.
Saturday’s events will have important implications for Russian foreign policy and the war in Ukraine, claims the holder of the Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa. According to him, the perception of Vladimir Putin’s invincibility, already tainted by Russia’s failure in Ukraine for 16 months, is more fragile than ever.
“Politically, what seemed unthinkable is starting to become possible, and that means perhaps the final end of the Putin regime,” Mr. Ariel said.
The repercussions of the attempted Wagner Group rebellion could be significant for Ukrainian forces.
Dominique Ariel asks: “Would the Russian military want to continue fighting in Ukraine under these conditions, with what just happened?”
