A huge snowstorm hit the western United States, while the state of Texas has been witnessing strong forest fires since Thursday.
Parts of California and Nevada have been experiencing a snowstorm since Thursday, which could continue into the beginning of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
The blizzard was particularly severe in Nevada's Sierra Mountain region, where major roads and ski resorts were closed, and wind speeds were reported to reach 305 km/h. In addition, tens of thousands of homes were left without power, according to PowerOutage.US.
Up to three meters of snow is expected to fall between Thursday and Sunday in these mountainous areas, raising serious safety concerns, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service, the BBC reported on Saturday.
About 1,200 miles away from that blizzard, fires have burned more than 1 million acres in Texas since Thursday, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
At least two people died this week. The harsh weather conditions experienced by Texas residents increased the difficulty faced by firefighters in containing the flames in recent days.
