The Regional Council of the Center and the Portuguese company Technoedif Engenharia Portugal signed, last Wednesday, a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a dry port in the city of Ngomo, the capital of the province of Mevo and Akono. Gilbert Tsimi Evona, President of the Center’s Regional Council, represented the Foundation, while Rui Antas Fernandez assumed the duties of the Federation presidency on behalf of the Portuguese Federation.

The Cameron Tribune notes that the documents initialed represent the first stage of a long process. This gives the opportunity for this particular partner to start the technical and financial studies that will allow the completion of the project.

This ambitious project brings together all the operations inherent in the independent ports of Kribi and Douala. Thus, as an inland terminal that serves as a departure point for goods, it must include commercial, industrial and logistic areas. Service and technological activities, as well as agricultural poles and technopolis, were also planned.

As a result and according to the details provided by Technoedif Group President Engenharia Portugal, the Ngoumou Dry Port will include: a storage area and customs clearance areas; Hypermarket, logistics center, cold warehouse, marketing center for basic necessities and one-stop shop for foreign trade operations.

Achieving this infrastructure holds many economic stakes, both for the region it harbors, for the center region, and for the whole country. It is called to be a driving force for the improvement of trade between the ports of Kribi and Douala in the central region, in particular the Douala-Yaoundé-N’Djamena corridor or the Kribi-Douala-N’Djamena corridor. For this, the head of the center’s regional council expressed his desire to start technical and financial feasibility studies as soon as possible.
