South Kivu/Monkeypox: 10 deaths out of nearly 1,000 cases already recorded

The South Kivu Province Health Department warns of the alarming situation of monkeypox in the province. According to Dr. Claude Bahzir, communications director at the South Kivu Regional Health Department, the province is approaching 1,000 cases, raising fears of a surplus.

“The monkeypox situation in South Kivu province remains complex because we are now close to 1,000 cases. In one week we recorded more than 100 cases. This worries everyone, especially us in the health department, because we risk being overwhelmed by this situation,” explains doctor Claude Bahizere. “.

The regional health department adds that recoveries and 10 deaths have already been recorded. “Fortunately, we already have more than 700 recoveries, but unfortunately, with 10 deaths, including two more this week, the monkeypox situation remains worrying,” notes doctor Claude Bahiser.

Kamituga already has more than 500 cases of monkeypox, but other areas are also starting to be affected, such as Nyangzi Health District, particularly in its part of Kamaniola, and on the Uvira side. Starting in Kamituga, monkeypox has reached 22 of the 34 health districts in South Kivu province. Health professionals call for strict adherence to hygiene measures to combat this disease.
