Spider Hiding Under Chair: Man Dies From Bite

A tourist has died after being bitten by one of the world's most venomous spiders while hiding under his chair in a restaurant in Brazil.

The victim, known as Vinicius, was on holiday in Cairo with six friends when they decided to stop for a meal at a restaurant near the beach after a boat trip on July 9.

Vinicius reportedly sat on the bamboo chair, even though his friend showed him the spider's cocoon, telling him that this type of seat is a favourite nesting spot for deadly brown recluse spiders in the area.

“He was on this little bamboo couch, man. I even asked the guy to take it off. It’s their cocoon. He sat on the little couch and I sat on a separate chair,” his friend told local media after the incident.

However, the next day the man began to feel ill, British media outlet The Mirror reported. Chest pain, difficulty breathing and blackness around the bite site were so severe that he had to be taken to hospital.

After five days of struggle, he finally succumbed to the spider's venom.

The restaurant owner, who did not give his name, claimed he had not been informed of the situation. “This has never happened in 20 years, we have not heard anything about this, no customer has come to us, no one has looked for us, no one has asked for help,” he said.
